Off-topic post: AI results
This has absolutely nothing to do with my two boys, but hey, it's my blog, so I can write whatever I want. And tonight I want to say hooray for Missouri's own David Cook! For once, my favorite on American Idol actually won. Honestly, though, the only other time I really cared was when it was Bo vs. Carrie. (I like Bo.) I did my part for David C., having voted 11 or 12 times last night. I must admit that when the results were announced, I threw my arms in the air and cheered. Yes, I really did. And now another season of Idol is over. What am I going to do until January?

Yay from us Missourians, too. We had recorded the show, but when we got home and saw that the video had popped out, we thought, uh-oh. We watched the show and, sure enough, just when Ryan had the 2 Davids on stage to announce the winner, the video ended. It didn't take us long to find out who won, and we did get to watch the footage eventually on You Tube, but we missed the thrill of actually seeing the winner declared. Yeah, we know we're in the dark ages still using a VCR.
I know how that goes. Last year our TiVo quit recording literally just before the announcement was made. It was infuriating having to go online to find out the results, although we pretty much knew what they would be. This year, we made sure our DVR recorded an extra 15 minutes all season long.
I was just at Eccentrix rifling through the used CD's and found CD's by Jordin Sparks and Reuben Studdard. I hope that won't be the fate of David Cook in a few years. I expect Brooke to have a recording contract, and Sayesha. I don't know about David A.; maybe he will. I also wondered--what's he been doing about high school all these months?
We would have gotten all of AI if there were just a few more minutes on the tape. I have made sure the past two weeks to run over about 4-5 minutes. But there wasn't enough tape to capture 2 Dancing with the Stars shows (4 hours) and one Idol show. There should have been, but there wasn't.
You should take up DWTS; it was just as exciting, especially to see how far people can come in 12 weeks of full-time training in a dance studio. Kristi Yamaguchi won this year, and she danced like a professional this week. We couldn't believe it. It gave us hope!
So You Think You Can Dance is way better than DWTS. But then again, I'm not an Idol fan, so what do I know?
Way better? No, it's a difference in kind, not degree. DWTS is ballroom & Latin dancing, while SYTYCD seems to be more freestyle/hip hop/group/individual. We like ballroom & Latin dance because it's couples dancing; therefore we like DWTS. But we will allow you to like SYTYCD better if you like freestyle better.
We weren't Idol fans until Asiah Epperson--from Joplin--made the cut. We had to watch for her sake.
You would almost expect Kristi Yamaguchi to do well, considering her background. Isn't that an unfair advantage?
I hope David Cook fares better than Ruben and Jordin. Taylor Hicks hasn't sold many albums, so you probably wouldn't find his at Eccentrix! Maybe DC will turn around the downward sales trend of AI winners over the past few seasons.
Well KY had never danced before, but you are right about showmanship & balance & all. Still, she had to come a long way to win. She was stiff to begin with!
